Do You Know?

Do you know what it's like to raise a child with Autism, Downs, or anything that is considered 'special needs'? Do you know what it's like to deal with depression? Do you know what it's like to have lost a loved one? Do you know what it's like to have been sexually assaulted, and live with the affects of that trauma? Do you know what it's like to deal with mental illness? Do you know what it's like to have been abused, physically or mentally?
Good evening dear ones. Tonight's post is something that hit me last night as I tried to go to sleep, and it still hasn't let go. I know there are several more questions, like the above, that could be asked and answered, however, I would be here all night typing them out.
Throughout my years on social media, and throughout life in general, I can recall times where I've heard (or read about) people say how someone should act, feel, or deal with a situation like the ones mentioned. I have also seen, and heard people say 'well it could be worse', or 'remember someone else has always been through harder times'. I find myself wanting to ask them... Do you know what it's like? Have you had it happen to you? Are you in that person's shoes?
For whatever reason, we, as a society, think we have to tell people how to deal with the pain that they are going through. We seem to think that we have a right to tell people how they should handle what life throws their way. Even though we may know what it's like to go through something that someone else has been through, we certainly don't have the right to tell them how they should handle it. We don't have the right to tell them, that what we went through was worse.
It can take a lot for some to tear down the walls they've built and let someone in to their heart. The raw vulnerability is difficult to put out there when one has been closed off for so long. It takes time to gain that kind of trust, and it takes tenderness and kindness to nurture it. If someone lets you into their life, and finds the courage to tell you their story, give them your attention. Then, before you speak, ask yourself... 'Do you know what it's like?'
The world needs kindness more than ever my loves. Be good to yourselves and one another. Be Kind, Be Peace, and Be Love. Yesterday is past and tomorrow isn't promised. Live and love for today. - Live - Laugh - Love - Namaste
